With storm serge warnings still echoing in my head, I loaded a couple of Nikons and a chainsaw in the Suburban and sped to the coast. Eighteen-foot swells and a southerly wind mean only one thing: waves! Big waves! This shot was captured with a Nikon D850 at 1/5000 sec, F/6.3, and ISO 320. I also used a heavily ballasted tripod and an rf shutter release at 7 frames per second. Fortunately, I didn't need to use the chainsaw on fallen trees to get home this time.

I love this! The movement is captured very well and the colors are cool.
Love the energy on this, great shot. Also well done on avoiding the cliche of it hitting a wall etc.
Thank you. This was actually an incoming wave hitting an outgoing wave. The surf report alerts us to these conditions days in advance and we drop everything to be there.
