Welcome to Mars

This is one of my personal favorite images. I had never heard of or seen this scene before, when a couple I met during a photography road-trip through the US mysteriously introduced it to me. The formation is not very well known, so I don't want to reveal it's location here, but as with most crazy rock formations, you can safely assume it's somewhere in Utah. I shot this as a panorama at 100mm, about 1 hour before sunset. I also have a couple of alternate versions during sunrise and moonrise, but this afternoon light turned out to be the best that day. Unfortunately, there was no real astronaut on hand, so I added one in post as everything about the scene reminded me of standing on another planet. During certain times of the year, the milkyway should be visible above the rock spire, so perhaps I'll have to return in the future to re-shoot.

Thank you everyone for all the votes!

Shoot on:
- Canon 6d
- Sigma 100-400mm
- Feisol Tripod

I love the cinematic atmosphere in this image. Well done, Lukas.

Rated: 5 stars.

Thank you Steffon!

Hey Lukas, I could see this image making the finale but you didn't include enough info to be eligible. You should definitely write up the info required in the contest if you want to be eligible.

Thanks Patrick, I'll update the description!
