2.07 - "Needs Work"

During a headshot session one client was changing looks and accidentally dropped a tube of red lipstick on the floor while looking for her phone in her purse. Seeing the red shirt she brought, I had her change and adjust her makeup, adding the red lipstick. We tried a few lighting setups before settling on this final take.

There were no colored filters used to get the wall behind her this color. It was a plain white wall that with the room’s overhead light simply reflected this very even yellow tone. So we used a single soft box to light her face, with a seemingly blank stare into the camera. This was the final image.

Was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II. Don’t recall the lens or focal length, but I remember punching the ISO to about 600, and being around 2.8 so that we kept enough of the phase in focus to accentuate the color of the lips, allowing the rest to of the face and head to feather off a bit.
