35mm, f/8, 6 sec exposure at ISO 100.
A helper stood behind the model with an LED light wand and waved it in decorative patterns. During the long exposure, I manually fired a strobe aimed at the model so that multiple photographers at the shoot could get images. The strobe froze the model - in earlier attempts, we could not get the models still enough to avoid blur while getting the LED light wand patterns in a single shot.
The photo has potential. If I could add some points that might help:
1 - Reduce the exposure time; it will help with the LED movements. I conducted similar studies and found that between 2 to 4 seconds, the results are better.
2 - Perhaps instruct the assistant to observe the speed or slowness of the movements during execution. If the movements are too fast, the LED stick becomes less saturated, and when the movements are too slow, the colors become washed out, leaning towards white.
3 - One test I conducted that improved the results was using second-curtain flash. I found that the results were better and more harmonious using this method.
