This image captures one of the most striking moments of the Fest al Cel 2025 air show, held in Salou, Spain. Two aerobatic aircraft cross the sky, drawing trails that resemble brushstrokes across a backdrop of clouds and bright Mediterranean midday light.
The photograph was taken with a 600 mm telephoto lens and a polarizing filter, allowing the scene to be isolated while enhancing the contrast in the sky. It was shot handheld, which added technical difficulty due to the extreme focal length and the constant movement of the aircraft. To preserve the sense of motion, a shutter speed of 1/250 s was used—slow enough to reveal the rotation of the propellers, yet fast enough to freeze the aircraft in flight.
The real challenge was tracking the aerial choreography with precision and stability, waiting for the moment when the trajectories and smoke trails aligned into a balanced composition. The result is an image that combines precision, motion, and emotion, transforming a fleeting moment of the show into a scene meant to be quietly contemplated.
