Title: Reaching Higher

Captured in February 2021 inside the vast plains of Maasai Mara National Reserve, this image portrays a solitary Giraffe stretching upward to feed from the branches of an acacia tree. The photograph was taken during the harsh midday heat while our safari was paused under the shade for a lunch break.

In the distant horizon, roughly 300 to 400 meters away, I noticed this quiet, perfectly balanced scene unfolding across the open savannah.
The lone giraffe stood against the rolling hills of the Mara, reaching higher for fresh leaves while surrounded by tall, dry African grass that remained clean and distraction free. The simplicity of the landscape and the isolation of the animal created a natural harmony between subject and environment.

Photographed using a Canon EOS 5Dmk3 with a Sigma 150–600mm Contemporary lens, the long focal length allowed this distant moment to be framed tightly while preserving the expansive feel of the landscape.

Lens - Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary.
