Ship Rock is the eroded remnant of the throat of a volcano. Located near the Four Corners region of SW US, it is considered a sacred Navajo site.
Challenges for this shot…I’d seen this location in social media years before i went here and I’d had it on my photo bucket list since. The town of Farmington was the launching point a little over an hour away. As luck would have it, I was in the area for work and had to get to location and back before a certain time. I had come here the night before for sunset and while incredible to see, it didn’t provide the photo backdrop I’d hoped. Sunrise was a whole different story. Which is also part of the problem when flying a drone is knowing when to shoot video and knowing when to stop the clip because the potential photo is too good to pass up. Along with finding the composition you’re looking for in rapidly changing light. I’m a photographer first so the photo opportunity is always paramount.
I think this would make a great large print as I’ve seen this location frequently used as a muse for other artistic mediums in the area. Anyone that’s seen this location knows how special it is.
