Whilst visiting a trade fair in Barcelona, I took a trip into the city and discovered the beautiful main cathedral, ‘Catedral La Seu’. I tried to capture my experience through a series of photos: the colour of the stone used in its construction and the very warm, subdued lighting create an incredibly cosy atmosphere, reminiscent of gazing into a warming wood fire in the evening. The photograph was taken in the afternoon using my Sony A7R3 with a Sony 16-35mm F4 ZA lens. The architectural masterpiece of the vaulted structures and arcades is beautifully captured, and daylight streams in only through the uppermost part of the dome, creating a striking contrast to the predominantly warm light of the interior. I increased the brightness slightly during exposure, as otherwise the typical appearance cannot be reproduced on a good screen. The high resolution, the play of colours and the architectural achievements of the builders combine here to create an image of exceptional aesthetic appeal. I myself have a canvas print of it measuring 120 cm by 80 cm – it could easily be even larger.
