This was in Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe.
My goal was to capture several close-up portraits of several animals. This was close to where I was camping. And when I saw this hippo out of the water (which doesn’t happen often during the day), I had to go down to the river to try to get a close, low angle shot. Luckily It stayed out of the water for long enough to get this shot. I had to quickly retreat right after, as hippos are known to be aggressing and can charge, especially at that distance.

Shot with the Sony A7IV paired with the Sony 200-600m @600mm.
Settings were ISO 250, f/6.3, 1/1250. Edited in Capture One.

I like this photograph very much! it's a great animal portrait and I think the B&W edit makes it timeless. The light and dynamic foreground adds a pleasurable contrast to this heavy creature and makes this photo very lively. Awesome work!
