Intuitive and compact smartphone printer to appeal to the social generation? Take a look at Fujifilm instax latest product in instant photography field.
Fujifilm instax instant photography cameras and film have and continue to be a hit among the younger generation. Having not experienced the wait between capturing and receiving the developed shots, it's no wonder that younger people enjoy using instant cameras to somewhat mirror the experience we went through waiting for the shots we captured on family holidays and more.
With the aim of sharing moments, not just virtually but through tangible prints, and having fun with the people around us, Fujifilm instax have developed "instax mini Link" or simply, Link, smartphone printer. Using instax mini instant film, Link comes with more than just printing capabilities. It features two modes, namely, Print Mode and Fun Mode. The former allows the user to simply print images off their smartphone using instax mini film, and the latter allows users to have fun through a couple of games you can play with people you are with. These functions are enabled through an app, which is available for free, specifically designed to enable all the Link features.
Although this product may not necessarily appeal to working professionals in the photography field, as it is aimed at young people who use it as part of their socializing and recording life, I can still see the appeal of social photographers using this. For example, as a wedding photographer you could deliver immediate instant shots for your clients to keep, as could event, couple, and family photographers. It is not something they would put on a wall in a frame, but the instant gratification of receiving one or a couple of prints is likely to increase their excitement as they wait for the final images to be delivered.
Usman Dawood from Sonder Creative takes the first look of this compact printer, having visited its launch in London. Dawood details all specifications of this product and demonstrates the user experience of testing it out. Link is available in three colors: Dusky Pink, Ash White, and Dark Denim. It currently retails for $99.95 and is available to be purchased from selected retailers.
I still have the first model. I forget the name now.
At €1 a print though and not brilliant prints at that, the novelty worn wore off. Nice fr events though when you can give someone a little print to take home.
