7 Steps for Buying a Lens

Perhaps no piece of photographic equipment is more crucial to your work and image quality than the lens you put on your camera, and as such, when it comes time to purchase one, it is something you should consider carefully. If you are ready to purchase your next lens, check out this great video tutorial that will give you seven steps to follow to ensure you get the right lens for your needs and budget.

Coming to you from Micael Widell, this helpful video tutorial will give you seven steps to follow when purchasing a new lens (you can fast-forward to 7:38 in the video to get to that segment). If I could give advice to new photographers looking to expand their lens collection, it would be try them out as much as possible before you actually purchase them. It can be fun to drool over specs online, but on the other hand, you never know how much you will like the weight and feel of a lens until you actually hold it and use it. Furthermore, the differences between lenses can often be exaggerated online, and the real-world consequences on the quality of your work might be smaller than you realize, meaning you can sometimes save a lot of money by going with a more affordable model. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Widell.
