Today's Apple event brought a ton of exciting new devices for photographers and filmmakers, including a new version of the thin and powerful iPad Air that brings the company's M1 chip to the device along with a lot of other new features and upgrades. Let's take a look.
iPad Air 5
The iPad Air, now in its fifth generation, brings with it a range of powerful features. Sitting just below the smaller iPad Pro in screen size but above the base iPad, the Air model offers a nice balance of screen real estate and portability. The new model features:
- M1 chip (same as the iPad Pro) with 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU
- 16-core Neural Engine
- 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with Center Stage for video conferencing
- USB-C port with speeds up to 10 Gbps and ability to drive displays up to 6K
- 5G data on cellular models
- Wi-Fi 6
- 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with 3.8 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, full lamination, P3 wide color gamut, True Tone, and anti-reflective coating
- Touch ID in top button
- Compatible with second generation Apple Pencil, offering wireless charging and pairing
- Compatible with Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and Smart Folio covers
- 100 percent recycled aluminum enclosure, 100 percent recycled tin in main logic board solder, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in enclosure and audio magnets
The new iPad Air is available for preorder, with availability beginning on March 18. It will come in space gray, starlight, pink, purple, and blue, with 64 GB and 256 GB options. Pricing will start at $599 for the Wi-Fi version and $749 for the cellular version.
