You’ve heard it before: the best camera is the one you have with you, and premium compact cameras are what you should be carrying.
Sometimes you want the power of a mirrorless camera or your DSLR, but they're too big to carry regularly. You don’t need to sacrifice by leaving a camera at home. A premium compact camera solves your problem. Well, one other thing. For many, these cameras are usually out of budget, but as always, there is a solution. Buying a new camera these days is a challenge in itself. They are either out of stock or overpriced, but MPB has them.
Why a Premium Compact Camera?
These days, the best camera you carry is your cell phone. For some, this is fine. For others, with a keen eye and a love of quality, the phone doesn’t cut it. The main reasons to choose a premium compact camera are a larger sensor, real optics, and better low-light performance. It is also about the tactile experience you're already used to. A viewfinder, camera modes, dials, and a deliberate way of shooting. These cameras also lead to a different way of seeing. They let you still be a photographer when you need to be, with the quality you are used to, even when that is not your primary goal, but you still need to scratch that creative itch.
Why Buying Used Makes Sense
Over the last few years, I have been looking at used gear more than ever. The reason: value. You can find many cameras at great value on the used market. Many photographers trade in gear for a number of reasons: they didn’t like the camera, they use it less than before, or they just want an upgrade. Often, used gear sits unused; you can get new-to-you gear at a great value and in great condition, often like new. Availability is another reason to purchase used gear. Sometimes new cameras are out of stock, and they show up on the used market, like the Fujifilm X100VI, which was available used when it wasn't available new. Maybe you're eyeing a discontinued camera. It's usually available used!
For the longest time, I shied away from used gear because I had trust issues. You never really knew what you were getting because the available images didn’t match the item you’d receive. MPB fixed that issue. I can now see the photos of the item I am receiving, with no surprises. The biggest plus of used gear for me has been the trade-in. I purchased a used Nikon D850; I traded in my D750 and, in the end, upgraded to a mint-condition camera for only $500!
