Both Versions of Sigma's 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Now Available for Pre-Order

Sigma's hot, new sports telephoto-zoom lens is now available for pre-order in both of its configurations, the Sport and Contemporary models. The Sport model features superior image quality along with increased weight and a heftier price tag. It comes in Nikon F, Canon EF, and Sigma SA mount options for $1,999. The Contemporary Nikon F, Canon EF, and Sigma SA options accompany a more compact size along with fewer lens elements, only one FLD coating (as opposed to two), and a couple other "sacrifices" for a very reasonable $1,089.

Apart from the different optical designs, the two lenses are quite similar in features and even in aesthetic. Both come with the HSM (fast, quiet focusing motor), weather sealing, an f/22 minimum aperture, fairly close focusing distances (8.5 feet for the Sport, 9.2 feet for the Contemporary), and are compatible with the Sigma USB Dock. Finally, since both are part of Sigma's Global Vision line, they're eligible for Sigma's mount conversion service should you want to keep your lenses, but switch to another system.

The Contemporary models should ship March 20, 2015, while it's still unclear when the Sport models will ship. It's safe to say, however, that it won't be all that much later if not at the same time.

It comes in Sony a-mount, too. Is SA mount even a thing any more?

B&H currently shows the Sony A-mount version as "no longer available." While this may be temporary (as some manufacturers release the same lens in different mounts at different times depending on expected popularity/demand, etc.), we're not currently sure of the reason. But we are looking into it.

Sigma still have the SD1 and while its getting on a little now it still has some of the best IQ at low iso and coupled with the 150-600mm sport it can deliver some stunning results.

Full size in the link below (because you really have to see it at 100% to see the detail).

The SD1 is one of the best built and quietest DSLR's I've ever used and I am really looking forward to seeing what an updated version will be like.
