Broncolor Announces the LED F160: A Focusable LED Light Designed for Video and Stills

Broncolor has entered the LED lighting market with the announcement of the LED F160, a color temperature adjustable light with some very interesting and neat features.

The LED F160 is a dual purpose LED light that outputs 12,000 lumen (equivalent to about 650 W halogen). The light itself is a point-to-flood source, allowing you to focus the beam or make it more diffuse to fill larger modifiers such as a parabolic umbrella. The light features variable color temperature from 2,800 to 6,800 K in steps of 50 with an average CRI of 97 (99 at 5,500 K). It also comes with Wi-Fi and will be able to be controlled via the bronControl app. Finally, the light features an OLED rear display.

The LED F160 has a standard Broncolor mount and can take advantage of Broncolor's rich library of modifiers, which should please both photographers and videographers who are already invested in the Broncolor system. It will come with a diffusion dome, umbrella reflector, protective cap, and power supply, and should retail for around $1,699. For those who work in both photography and videography and need a high-quality light that can function just as well in both arenas, it could be a very intriguing option.

At $1700 each they had better come with a free assistant to set them up.

Am I the only one who thought "Profoto" at first glance? Are the designs of these things going to follow the Apple/Samsung battles?

Probably, did you see the Siros? The F160 looks very similar to those, but the handle isn't "broncolor blue" on the F160. Look at godox AD600, that was obviously inspired by the Siros.

Ouch - great idea, wrong price point. At about 1/3rd the price I would be interested.

I would love to see these in use but no battery option and that high of a price point is going to be an interesting project

Good call on the lack of a battery. I completely overlooked that, and it's a serious no-go.

yeahhh it just seems like an interesting move, especially as companys like Appature continue to put out good video lighting products for much less money

And Godox

Especially since LED tech requires such little power compared to other lighting bulbs.

12,000 lumens consumes a fair amount of power though. If you're going hard through hours and hours, not having to think about batteries is liberating.
Not to say that Broncolor shouldn't make a battery-powered LED light, but people need to understand that professionals have different needs, and that brands like Broncolor doesn't focus on "run-and-gun hipster photo/videographers".

compared to the bron and profoto hmi lights these are dirt cheap - I was always wondering if anyone besides rental houses is buying these

I’m hoping this proves popular and that Broncolor continues to grow this LED line with more powerful options. It would be nice to have something as powerful as the larger HMIs without the safety and portability concerns...

Nice! Cant wait to check these out. Wonder how long it will take will howell to come along and say these are made in china by godox lol!
