Canon added a fourth lens to its line of f/1.4 Hybrid Primes today with the brand-new RF 20mm f/1.4 L VCM.

Consistency of lenses can sometimes be just as important as quality. So it is with open arms that Canon users will welcome the new RF 20mm f/1.4 L VCM ultra wide angle lens to a group that already includes the 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm f/1.4 lenses in the lineup of Canon’s RF Hybrid Primes. These lenses promise equal value for both photo and video shooters and are aimed at journalists, independent filmmakers, corporate videographers, and content creators alike.

The 20mm promises quiet, smooth, and efficient autofocus with reduced focus breathing compared to non-VCM lenses. It has a physical iris ring for changing aperture while filming video. And the wide f/1.4 capabilities offer interesting options for depth of field or when shooting in difficult lighting conditions.

The lens is built from 15 elements in 11 groups and weighs 519 grams. The RF 20mm f/1.4 L VCM lens is dust resistant and sports a 67mm filter thread. The lens comes with a rear filter holder as well for mounting filtration.

Like all the new lenses, the 20mm is built to maximize the RF mount with minimalist features and a smaller footprint. It is essentially the same size as the other lenses in the Hybrid Prime series, making it easier to change lenses during a scene without needing to completely adjust your rig.

The lens is expected to start shipping on April 18th and will retail for $1,699.
