Shooting video takes great focus skills already, so shooting it at an extreme aperture is all the more challenging. This neat video follows a filmmaker as he shoots a video at a crazy wide aperture (f/0.95).
Coming to you from Mathieu Stern, this fun video shows him shooting at f/0.95 using a TTArtisan 50mm f/0.95 lens. I have played with an f/0.95 lens a bit just for shooting photos, and it was certainly a fun experience and was rather addicting despite the difficulty, but it was wickedly challenging on my focusing skills. It is all the more impressive to see someone doing it with video. Stern used the lens on a Sony a7 III, so he was able to take advantage of a lot of the manual focus assistance features of a modern mirrorless camera, such as focus peaking. The TTArtisan 50mm f/0.95 lens is rather unique, as it contains 14 aperture blades, helping it create particularly smooth bokeh to complement that extremely narrow depth of field. It is quite impressive and a neat way to quickly give your video a very distinctive look. Check out the video above to see the results, which also contains some still photos examples!
That's pretty neat, but not something I would use.
