Today, we’ll have a look at the brand-new color calibration tool from Datacolor: the Spyder Express.

Calibrating your monitor is kind of like brushing your teeth. It’s boring to talk about, and you don’t always feel like doing it. But if you don’t, sooner or later, you’re going to regret it.

Having a calibrated monitor is key to making sure the colors you work so hard to perfect throughout your workflow are seen by your viewer exactly as you imagined them. There are a number of tools on the market to serve this purpose. Datacolor has an extensive line of color calibration tools in its lineup, and they’ve just added one more: the Spyder Express.

The Spyder Express is designed to ensure precise screen accuracy when doing photo editing, printing, and design. Datacolor promises accurate, professional-grade color calibration in just 90 seconds. It offers support for Apple’s XDR displays, including the MacBook Pro M4 series, and supports up to three displays per workstation. It works with Windows 10 (32/64-bit), Windows 11, and macOS X 10.14 to macOS 26. The device is compact at 3 inches by 3 inches and weighs only 142 grams. The tool is software-upgradable, so you can add features previously available only with the Spyder and Spyder Pro.

Upgradeable features include:

  • Device Preview™

  • Soft proofing

  • Display matching

  • Video-centric tools

  • Expanded display support, including OLED and mini-LED

Setup is easy and straightforward. There are helpful prompts to guide you through the process, whether you are creating content for social media or preparing a print for a gallery. Once you begin, the software shows you where to place the lightweight device over your screen for the best results. Make sure the device sits neatly against the screen to avoid light leaks and achieve optimal results.

The Spyder Express costs $119 and is available for purchase now—a strong new addition to a color-accurate workflow.
