Hasselblad Unveils New H5X System with Reasonable Price Point

Legendary Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad announces a new medium format camera body, the H5X, this week in preparation for photokina. The newest addition is to utilize Hasselblad’s latest capture functionality, working seamlessly with current H System lenses. With a retail price of $5930.00 without viewfinder, $7469.00 viewfinder included, the H5X sits at a practical entry-level cost for new medium-format shooters or those seeking a backup for the H5D.

Hasselblad international sales director Michele Channer sets up the H5X as being “based on the widely-acclaimed H5D range” and “compatible not only with most of the digital backs from older H System products but also most of the third party digital backs.” Furthermore, Channer clarifies that “photographers choosing the H5X can embrace the unique and comprehensive Hasselblad lens range - and for third party digital backs, the new body offers the same functionality as the H4X.”

The H5X sports a number of new features including “True Focus”, full HC and HCD lens compatibility, eight memory banks for camera presets, and programmable button options.

"$7469.00 viewfinder included" seems to be very unreasonably priced. Not that I don't want this system with an IQ250 more than I want my right leg. But the Phase one AFD body (with viewfinder) is $1500 cheaper. https://captureintegration.com/product/phase-one-df-body/. Price and worth are relative concepts though.

Great. At last one starts having pretty nice ideas. Even the price is not dismaying

I just saw a mom with a 5DKIII. Well, guess I'm going to HAVE to buy a Hasselblad now.

Ryan, I'm not sure that you realise that the cost of $7469.00 doesn't include a lens or a digital back. A new medium format shooter would have to factor in those as well, which can make the price rocket. It's not high/mid/low end per-se, as whether it fits into any of those categories is up to the end user- are they going to use a 2002 16mp back or an IQ280 on it?

That's a good point. By wording it "reasonable", I was trying to convey some of this. I think the price is acceptable for what you get, and is worthy for new shooters to take a glance at as something to build off and grow with.

Don't get me wrong- I think it's a step in a very good direction that Hassy have decided to open up their system once more- no need to trade another body in etc, and the H5D bodies are honestly the best I've used.
