The Nikon D750 is a highly popular and respected camera, but at almost six years old, it was almost certainly ready for an upgrade. Thus came the D780, which looks to be a solid performer that should be able to tackle a wide variety of shooting scenarios. Is it a worthwhile upgrade if you already own the D750? This great video answers that question for you.
Coming to you from digiDirect, this excellent video review takes a look at the new Nikon D780, particularly as it compares to the D750. The D750 is an excellent all-around camera that excels in almost any situation, but Nikon also had six years of improvements to share in the D780. Some of the most notable upgrades include a better autofocus system that includes algorithms from the D5, on-sensor phase detection autofocus with face and eye detection, 4K video and 1080p at 120 fps (as opposed to 1080p at 60 fps), 7 fps burst (or 12 fps with the electronic shutter), vastly improved battery life, and a higher-resolution and now touch-sensitive screen. Altogether, the D750 certainly remains a capable camera that should still satisfy a lot of creatives' needs, but if you need things like better autofocus or improved video, you should give the D780 a look. The D780 is great but its hard justifying an upgrade compared to its fantastic predecessor. At this point, I'd only upgrade if the D750s broke beyond repair
no edge focus through the OVF means no upgrade, this is why I purchased the Z6, I was tired of having to focus and recompose.
I like it. I had a D7200 and D750, and switched out the crop sensor for the D780. Yeah, the Z6 is great but I've got quality f-mount lenses and need redundancy that twin card slots offer. It's a workhorse just like the 750 but the video is streets ahead, which is why I upgraded. Do I reckon it should have been 800 to 1000 AUD (about 25%) cheaper? Definitely. But do I still see the value as working photographer to jump in? Yup. Horses for courses of course, but 3 weeks in and I'm very happy.

Only two things critics have not liked about D780: no joystick and the price. If those are the only two complaints people have about Nikon's camera, Nikon have built a great body.
The more camera manufacturers pack more video capability into new models like the D780, the more likely I am to stay with my very satisfactory D750 and film.
I just bought a used D750 from KEH for $960 with 968 clicks on the shutter. It looks and performs good as new and I couldn't be happier.

the price of the d780 makes this camera a DOA. for the same price you get a d850 or a z6 with the 24-70s f4, 50mm s 1,8 and ftz adapter
I have a Z6 and I trialed the D850. I didn't like the look of the photos at high ISO (6400 and up) unless downsized to 20MP or less. I also shoot video and I have a very good set of mixed lenses F mount and Z mount. The D780 looks like it might be a very good second sports body (unlike the Z6).
I bought a D780 on a flash sale and I expect there will be more flash sales and the D780 with two year warranty will be available soon for about €2000/$2000, as opposed to a D850 without warranty and without video auto-focus. I don't have an opinion on the D780 yet as we are still in the offseason for a couple of weeks and I'm working on some other big projects which mean I haven't had a chance to test mine yet.
Based on the field reports, the D780 is probably a keeper.
here it is more around 2500 Euro, last time I checked. Something around 1600-1800 euro would make much more sense
The D780 can be bought on flash sales now as low as €2150. €1600 for a camera which embodies the best of the D750 and most of the Z6 is probably optimistic. The D780 will eventually get there, probably after Christmas 2020. I didn't want to wait that long as I'd go a wholeseason without a second OVF body.
ok even here in germany you can get it now für 2250 euro, but even this might be too much. even if it is a great camera but it is still 24mpix and an old dslr body - this is what people will see. I can mage that this will sell worse than the z6/z7. the z prices also came down because of reason. now with 1500 euro for the z6 it is really good priced in the market. btw. besides all of this 'I also think the d780 is fantastic, but it is in a cruel market with shiny competition
If I did not already have 4K capabilities in my D500, I could see upgrading. It is more likely I will wait until my D750 gives up the ghost and then buy something. But more likely a D850 unstead.
