The Swiss flash manufacturer, Elinchrom, and the innovative video light maker, Light & Motion, announced today that they are joining forces to bring new game-changing products to the market. The news comes in right after Elinchrom made the Skyport Protocol open to other brands. Thus, it’s no surprise that the new partnership is unveiled along with two new wirelessly controllable video lights.
The Light & Motion Stella range of products is made of portable, battery-powered, LED lights. They are all built to last and powerful enough to be used with large light shapers. Making them the perfect tool for videographers on the go, but also for photographers who prefer continuous lighting rather than strobes. With the announcement of the new collaboration with Elinchrom, Light & Motion introduced two new products: the Stella Pro 5000 RF and the Stella Pro 8000 RF.
Both units are weatherproof single-point LED lights balanced at 5600K. But what makes them unique is the addition of the Skyport Protocol so that they can be controlled from a remote, the EL Remote Control for Stella. Following the Elinchrom traditional settings, the remote offers 20 channels, four separate groups, and it can control the light power from 0 to 100%.
No word was given regarding the compatibility with the current Elinchrom Skyport Plus HS and Skyport Plus. However Light & Motion mentioned that the shared protocol could potentially let the new Sekonic Speedmaster L858D-U – with Elinchrom/Phottix module – and the Litemaster Pro L-478D-U-EL control the lights as well.
The Stella Pro 8000 RF is available starting at $2,199.99 while the Stella Pro 5000 RF is slightly cheaper at $1,999.99. The remote alone will be sold for $129.95 but will be included in the RF light kits.
Reading through the press release, it’s clear that both companies have much more to come soon. No further details were given, but the possibilities are vast! Light & Motion already offers a speed ring that allows users to mount Profoto light shapers, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar alternative with Elinchrom products as well. I personally can’t wait to see what they have in stock for us!
