The 40mm focal length has become a bit more popular the last few years, sitting between the classic 35mm and 50mm options. If you are looking for a unique focal length, check out this review of the Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 lens for Sony E mount cameras.
Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this great review takes a look at the Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 lens. The 40mm f/1.2 is manual focus only, but it comes with two aspherical elements for improved sharpness, a 10-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh, and a de-clicked aperture ring for video work (it can also use 1/3-stop clicks).
Personally, I have always loved the 40mm focal length. The lens on my Rollei 35 is a 40mm, and I have always found it to be a very natural look. I also really enjoy Voigtlander lenses; they tend to be very solid and feel great to shoot with, and I always enjoy the images I get out of them. They tend to be quite sharp with great contrast and color reproduction and smooth, subtle bokeh. Altogether, if you do not mind the lens being manual focus only, it looks like a fantastic option for Sony shooters. Check out the video above for Abbott's full thoughts.
Nice post. It's a great lens appreciated by manual focus people. It's unique in that it really has 3d pop up to 5.6 or so and then flattens out and gets super super sharp. 1.2 ain't bad either in the center.
Another solid review from Dustin. The green fringing at 21:41 looks pretty intense, though!
Don't you just want to have a beer with this guy? I don't think you could make a drier review if you just read the owners manual front to back. Watching this feels like it could be some form of punishment.
