Versatile Reach: A Review of the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM Lens

A high-quality supertelephoto zoom lens is one of the most versatile lenses a photographer can own, suitable for a wide range of genres and applications. This fantastic video takes a look at one such lens, the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM lens. The 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L is a very versatile lens that comes with a variety of features, including:

  • Six Ultra-Low Dispersion elements and one Super Ultra-Low Dispersion element for reduced chromatic aberrations and increased clarity
  • Optical Image Stabilizer with three separate modes and up to five stops of compensation
  • Dual Nano USM autofocus system with fast and quiet performance suitable for both photo and video work
  • Customizable Control Ring
  • Protective fluorine coating to resist smudges
  • Weather-resistant design
  • Adjustable torque on zoom ring

It is worth noting that while the lens' narrowest aperture, f/7.1, is a third of a stop narrower than that of its predecessor (and most comparable options), f/6.3, Canon's version reaches another 100mm; thus, you are not actually losing light at the overlapping focal lengths. Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts.
