On August 20, Zhiyun announced the updated Crane 2S which builds on the popular Crane 2 that launched in 2017. Here’s a hands-on review to see whether you should pay up or pass.
Zhiyun has been on a roll this year updating their gimbal lineup, from the heavy load bearing Crane 3S, to the smartphone compatible Smooth X and Smooth XS, and here with the new Crane 2S. The Crane 2S features improved responsiveness, an added vertical quick release mount for social media content creation, and axis locks for easier storage, setup, and balancing. Key functions of the gimbal can be adjusted using the screen and controls on the handle, while cinematic modes such as time-lapse, motion-lapse, and panoramas can be accessed through pairing with the iOS or Android app.
In this epic review from Dan Watson, he takes the Crane 2S for a spin filming a Porsche with the Canon EOS R5. Not stopping there, he also pops on the full-bodied Canon EOS-1D X Mark III with a 70-200mm mounted for a more difficult challenge. Check out the video above for the resulting footage.
The Zhiyun Crane 2S is priced at $599 and available to order now.
