Salvage Job

I was wishing for a mackerel sky above a distant treeline.

But it was early afternoon, more of a dugong sky, and I had a long drive home still ahead of me after a satisfying holiday (= vay-caytion to you dear US folks) where I'd netted a good haul of images.

I thought I'd have a go anyway, but unsurprisingly processing at home was going nowhere fast. Out of curiosity I tried a mono panoramic crop, and it's proven to be one of my most popular images. Printed over 1100mm long, it shows amazing detail from a lens design about half a century old.

yeah the crop is really nice and it does look better in B&W its a nice scene not much going on the B&W definitely helps out extracting the small details

Thanks, Joseph, and apologies for the late acknowledgment. Always interested in your opinion.

Interesting! I am not sure if I don't like to original better on this one! Hmmmm. I love the big openness of it. I'd love to see that one with some editing to see if it becomes something even cooler!

Believe me, Ruth, I've tried! It just doesn't work for me. One day, I'll get my mackerel sky here! The light is too flat, the interest from it created mainly from the moving cloud shadows creating tonal patterns in the pasture - little things, like the dark mound and the distant lit field at left (although someone said they'd crop that out). When I have time, I hope to post a simple demo of RGB-to-colour conversion using this image, for those who are not familiar with this. Varying the RGB balance made all the difference here.

I look forward to it!

Wow, the B&W and crop looks amazing. Great eye. (maybe two).

Thanks, Reed! Appreciate it.
