Connected comparisons

I have been experimenting with processing and would like to understand the preferences and general thoughts of others.

I present 3 sets of images. If you have a preference in each pair which is it? Do you have any feelings on what works for you, what doesn't?

Just playing about to see if enhancements can be made in some images. There can be NO wrong opinions, so feel free to answer with your gut feeling.

UPDATE 4/18
For those that may be interested I have been playing with the Edge Detection filter in Photoshop to see what it might offer.
In each set of images, one has the filter added (in varying degrees), and blended with a copy of the original layer to bring back contrast and an amount of the original where needed.

I provided pretty extreme examples just to show a difference - I think the filter does have potential if used with a lighter hand and with more focused intent (eg masking area of application).

The experiment will continue........

It's kind of difficult to say I prefer one of the two over the other in each set. In this type of photography, I guess anything goes. I started trying to choose; but then looking at each from different perspectives, causes me to appreciate each one in their own way.

Thanks PG. In many ways that's the way I feel myself, going back & forth onpreference.
Time normally tells, so we'll see how I feel in a few weeks........

Hi Alan, great work and really different from what i'm used to seeing.

On the first pair my instinct pulls me more to the second one i think the stronger colors and contrast gives something to focus, or at least has something more for me, gives main character feel.

The others are harder and maybe i'd give a different answer on another day, but i'll try.

Second pair of images, the second one feels lighter and I enjoy that but the shadows/people blend better on the first and it makes more sense for the feeling, imo.

Third pair, for me is the hardest one i feel they both have a different but enjoyable feel, i was going for the first one but there is a softness (not talking about sharpness) like a good painting that makes me want to rest and enjoy.

Thanks Jose, I appreciate your willingness to share your viewpoint.
I think all of your observations are valid and in many ways similar to my own.

It's good to understand a variety of viewpoints and helps in understanding how others view work.
