Andrew Williams's picture

48 Years Marinating

It's been really quiet here lately. Not just her, but every Fstoppers group I follow. Maybe it's me.

This composite of two images was, thankfully, shot on a tripod. It had to be since those are much younger versions of me in 1974. For once, I can tell which camera I used. Since I'm holding my Leica, it had to have been my Canon Ftb. Probably 24mm and Tri-X.

FWIW, this was shot during the replacement of the Penn Avenue iron bridge over the railroad tracks and the construction of the new (then) 222 overpass.

Penn Avenue Bridge/222 Overpass? Where's that?

This is a neat idea - an old photo within an old photo.

You're right about it being quiet - not just FS, but everywhere on the socials.

Reading, PA. This is where Penn Avenue (Rte 422) crosses the railroad tracks from Wyomissing to West Wyomissing/West Lawn, which is where I lived at the time.

I will have to redo this as the layers ended up in the wrong order, The running person should be the top layer and is not in this version. I need to experiment with masking a blur.

Wow! I grew up in West Lawn on Halsey Avenue.I know exactly where you're talking about in this image.

Look forward to seeing the redo with you running as the top layer.

Thanks for posting this!

My grandparents built the house at Spring and Woodside before 1920. They raised their three kids (including my Mom) there. My parents and us three rotten kids also lived there with my grandmother from 1950 to 1955 at which time Dad built their house off the twelfth hole of the Berkshire Country Club, where they lived until they retired to Florida. I lived in the West Lawn house for a few years in the mid-'70s after college.

Here is the revised image. The masking around the blur isn't quite right, but the software isn't really engineered for working with black & white film. At least the layers are in the right order. I also inserted a new layer of a different sky. Finally, the negative border image is shaded differently.

I really like this Andrew, thanks for keeping the thread energized.

Great work Andrew, once again I love the creativity.

As for it being quiet, I have to agree. In saying that it appears that notifications are once again spurious for me, I was only made aware of your post by entering the group directly.

I am hoping that when others see the group is being a little quiet, they might take an opportunity to post to help re-engage members in discussion.
Posts don't have to be based on an image, they can be simply include questions for others, thoughts on engaging themes, or even links to recommended artists, processing videos etc.
This would also include member announcements, links to their work outside of FS etc.

I see this group as being a place to engage and share, so please don't feel restricted when considering what to post.
