Which is Which!

As we approach Christmas and it gets dark earlier, I've been shooting illuminated decorations since their lights are just about the only thing I can see after dark when Harry and I take our daily constitutional.

The other day he was in such a rush that I had to leave the Nikon behind and made a few shots with my phone, a Pixel 4a using their Night Sight setting. I was really surprised by the results. The exposures were accurate enough, although some were blurry as the shutter speed ranged from 1/40 to 1/8 of a second. And that was at f/1.7!

I don't think I will use it for my "serious" photography because a) it does not allow much control over exposure, focus, or focal length and b) it is difficult to handle with Harry constantly tugging on his leash.

On the other hand, the old adage applied, "The best camera is the one you have with you."

One was shot with the phone and the other was shot a different day with the Nikon. Which is which?

Not fair to look at the EXIF data.

2nd with phone?

You got me motivated to do night time Christmas lights. I've been thinking about it, but not getting the motivation to go out in the cold temperatures.

Nice work Andrew. I would say the first is taken with your Nikon, but it's difficult to tell at such a small size.

BTW - I find the iPhone surprisingly acceptable for much of the multiple exposure work I try to replicate. I am constantly reminding myself to use it when opportunities pop up and I don't (or sometimes when I do) have my DSLR with me.

FYI The first one is from the Pixel 4A. The second one is from the Nikon D850.
