December Challenge - Green Monochrome

This one is still an old favourite of mine. I used to think that similar backlit leaves, but graced with the shadow of lizard or gecko were preferable, and certainly admirable.

However, now I tend to think that the "wow" factor of such images oddly enough DETRACTS from their long-term appeal. And I mean no disrespect for the wildlife photographers who show us critters in creative ways. For me, enduring images are often quieter. Not that this one is quiet! I guess it's the simplicity of just leaf structure and verdant green that makes this one a keeper for me.

I agree - the wow factor takes away from the simple, quiet, everyday that we overlook. My camera has caused me to appreciate those humble subjects that are too busy with living that they don't have time to vie for attention.

Thanks, Jenny! I think we share a taste for understatement and perhaps a degree of gentleness at times.

Lovely, enduring image Chris. The composition, lighting and texture can't be faulted.

This just reminds us all that worthwhile images surround us everyday, we don't need to travel far and wide to capture something unique.

Quite. Thanks, Alan!

Nice. You can almost feel the life flowing through the veins of the leaf.

Thanks, Dean. Lovely words! I'm very flattered.
