I just added an image to my portfolio and thought there may be interest here.
I have been experimenting with a technique that allows taking discreet pictures on the iphone. I'm testing this ahead of a trip to India later this year and after viewing a YouTube video that showed great success.
The technique involves taking pictures with the iPhone held by the hip, shooting more or less blind using the volume button to trigger the shot.
Compositions are more or less 'guesstimated', the result being candid shots of subjects who remain unaware or disturbed.
I'm hoping that with practice this will help me get some shots when traveling, although I feel being a foreigner in India will draw attention by itself.
Thoughts on technique and/or images? What about the ethics of capturing images of people without consent or knowledge (I'm always torn on this....)?
Here's a link to the video if you'd like to view technique and results;

I never knew that pressing the Volume would take a photo. I went into setting and there it was already setup.
You could even walk around with a Camera in one hand, down by you side, and your phone in the other snapping away.
The camera would draw attention to you, but it's position would put everyone at easy as you are not taking their photograph.
I'm thinking April Challenge.
I believe this also works if you wear the Apple headphones and ‘adjust the volume’ there.
I still have to try that, but yet another way to disguise the shot and keep subjects at ease.
Thanks for the suggestion Dean. With Jenny on board I think we have a Spring challenge in the works.
Definitely an idea for a month challenge. I've mentioned my hesitancy with taking photos of people without their permission. This would be something I'd be willing to try - though would still be torn as you said. Thank you for the idea!
Thanks Jenny - I love it when others suggest challenges that would inspire their own growth. Consider it done!
