The Andoer 18-megapixel digital camera is one of the cheapest cameras you can buy on Amazon, but is it even worth the 23 bucks? If you've ever wondered just how bad a budget camera can get—or if there’s any way to make it work—you’re in for a ride.
Coming to you from Rick Bebbington, this hilarious video takes the Andoer camera into the wild to see if it can produce anything remotely usable. Right out of the gate, things aren’t looking good. The camera claims to have 18 megapixels, anti-shake technology, and 1080p video, but the reality is… well, a little different. The fixed aperture lens struggles to capture anything that isn’t underexposed, the colors seem to exist in a parallel universe, and the dynamic range is basically nonexistent. Adjusting settings? Sure, but the options are mostly just different shades of "wrong." The white balance shifts between "deep space blue" and "strangely purple," and there’s no raw shooting, meaning any hope of fixing it later is slim.
Bebbington takes it through its paces in a variety of conditions, hoping to find a situation where it actually works. Turns out, that’s harder than it sounds. The screen is barely usable, making composition a guessing game. Shooting side-by-side with a Sony a7R V really hammers home the difference—one camera captures breathtaking landscapes, the other captures something that looks like a 2007 flip phone had a bad day. And zooming in? Let’s just say the 18-megapixel claim is generous. Once you hit 100%, the details turn into a pixelated mess that wouldn’t look out of place on a Game Boy Color.
Just for fun, Bebbington runs through the various shooting modes—beach, portrait, scenery, party—none of which seem to actually improve anything. The anti-shake feature does its best, but with no tripod mount and the wind threatening to rip the camera out of his hands, there’s only so much it can do. Even video recording gets put to the test, but let’s just say if you were hoping for a hidden vlogging gem, you should probably look elsewhere.
