Wide angle lenses are the standard choice for landscape photography, but they challenge the photographer to compose images in which a huge part of the scene is in the frame. This great video tutorial follows a photographer as he shoots with a super-wide angle lens and shows you how to compose with such a challenging focal length.
Coming to you from Alister Benn with Expressive Photography, this helpful video tutorial will walk you through the process of composing a landscape image using an ultra-wide angle lens. In this case, Benn is using a 12mm lens on a full frame camera. Once you get below the standard lower limit of 14mm and into more niche lenses, things can get quite enjoyable and quite challenging! I had a 10mm lens for a few years, and it was a ton of fun to use, but it was also incredibly difficult to create compelling imagery with it, so much so that I really had to slow down and methodically work through my frames quite a bit more than I would with any other focal length, but the results were always well worth the extra time and effort.
