One tip that I have always found particularly helpful is turning your attention to individual elements of the landscape instead of using a wide angle lens. Trying to balance a busy frame when shooting with a wide angle lens can be a really difficult thing, and it can make it hard for the viewer to know how to digest everything they are seeing. On the other hand, using a longer focal length to pick out individual elements can make for stronger, more direct, and more compelling photos.
