Michael Shainblum has been creating jaw dropping and memorable time-lapses for years and he has just released a new video centered on the Italian coast of Cinque Terre. Glimpse of Cinque Terre is a beautiful time-lapse that showcases the area and spans several scenes of day moving into night while capturing the surreal coast.
This amazing area and several views will be familiar to some readers as they have been showcased in previous Fstoppers’ tutorials by Elia Locardi. Shainblum finds movement in scenes that tell the story about the richness of the area and doesn’t shy away from the movement of people throughout. The time-lapse goes through several day and day into night scenes with a beautifully done sliding motion at 1:01 showcasing how parallax can really change the interest of a scene with movement. This technique really pushes a good production into a different realm especially when done with overlapping foreground objects and adding additional movement at capture or in post to change the central viewing angle of the scene thus creating an iconic hero image. This entire moment is done in sync with the audio while using cues in the music and the impending crescendo that aligns with the visual imagery.
If you’re interested in attempting to create this type of motion in one of your own time-lapses then a slider is key to this type of movement. I’ve personally used Syrp and their Genie to do something similar. There are also a multitude of other brands that may be worth looking at if you want even more control. If you regularly create time-lapses, what did you think of Shainblum's Glimpse of Cinque Terre?
