What Makes a Truly Special Landscape Photograph?

Landscape photography is a wildly popular genre. Hop on Instagram, and you can quickly find thousands upon thousands of jaw-dropping images. But what is it that separates a really good image from a truly world-class photo? This excellent video essay examines the topic.

Coming to you from Mads Peter Iversen, this great video essay discusses what it is that makes a top landscape photograph. The huge steps that have been made in camera technology in the last decade or so have put top-quality capabilities in the hands of a ton of photographers, and with the advancements in post-processing software, particularly in automated technology, it is easier than ever to create technically apt, even compelling imagery. But there is most certainly a gap between compelling enough to linger on for a few seconds before you resume scrolling and something that is seared into your memory long after you view it, and this is something absolutely worth thinking about if you want to really come into your own as a landscape photographer. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Iversen.
