Before you jump into multi-light setups, it is important to master working with a single light, as you will want a firm grasp of things like source size, fall-off, and more before you tackle more advanced setups. Once you do jump into them, though, one really useful technique is to build up the frame light by light. Of course, different light sources will bleed into each other and overlap, and isolating each can help you see exactly how the frame is coming together. He knows that the main light is washing out the optical spot effect, right? Projecting color onto a white surface is generally a losing proposition. Shooting with only the V-Flat or only the beauty dish would have produced a more interesting image. As it is, the two lights defeat each other. This video is more like a lot of bad ideas combining to produce a blah image. Why would anyone want to know how to shoot that?
