However, when you move to on-location shoots, simplicity and portability are the name of the game. This awesome video tutorial will show you an easy, compact, and effective lighting setup for on-location portraits.
Coming to you from Pye Jirsa with SLR Lounge, this great video tutorial will show you an effective and portable lighting setup. In this case, Jirsa is using a Profoto A2 and softbox. As you will notice, he often uses the light to augment or complement the natural light rather than overwhelm it. There is certainly nothing wrong with the latter, but seeing how Jirsa uses it to create a balanced portrait with the light behind the subject is a great lesson in balancing ambient and artificial light. This prevents him from having to significantly underexpose the subject in order to not overexpose the ambient light, which would result in a significant adjustment in post-processing and a resultant drop in image quality, often creating visible noise on the subject.
