Geraint and Rob are old friends out to have fun with their photography. They are both accomplished photographers and, most importantly, have a lot of fun taking pictures. The genuine joy they find in the creative process is evident and makes this video is worth watching.
The Outsiders is a new YouTube channel that presents educational videos in a zany way. This is the second video they have released.
It may have come and gone, but this Halloween-themed video covers some helpful tips for wildlife and macro photography in "spooky" woodland.
During the video, they discuss lighting and the image background. Geraint talks about shooting close-up photos without a macro lens and getting a wider field of view for pictures of fungi. He gives some tips for photographing cobwebs.
Rob looks at signs for foxes and talks about tracking them.
They do briefly mention the lenses they use — they are both OM System ambassadors — but the techniques they are discussing apply to any system. The main purpose of this video is to teach techniques for taking images in woodland, not promote the kit.
Even if you are a proficient wildlife or macro photographer or they are genres that you are not interested in, this video is worth watching just for the fun of it. It doesn't come across as being scripted. Neither is it produced to the very highest Hollywood standards, nor even up to the standards of the 1960s Hammer Horror movies that it pastiches. But that carefree approach adds to the genuineness of the video. It certainly made me laugh out loud. It's a good reminder, if nothing else, that we should enjoy our photography.
Their first video was equally enjoyable and is worth watching too.
