Sadarghat, located on the banks of the Buriganga River, is the busiest river port in Bangladesh, connecting Dhaka to most districts across the country—especially the southern regions. It also serves as a central point along the historic Buckland Bund. Originally established as a landing site for boats, launches, and ships arriving in Dhaka, it remains a vital transit hub.
Visitors are often astonished by the sheer number of dingi boats ferrying people across the river, weaving between massive launches. Every day, millions travel through Sadarghat to access the capital, creating a constant atmosphere of chaos both on the river and its banks. Though it has lost much of its former grandeur, Sadarghat still plays a crucial role in Bangladesh’s inland water transport system.
