“Roll of the Dice”

No matter how much planning or watching the weather, it’s always a roll of the dice. Located on the eastern coastline of North Carolina lies Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County. I checked the weather on Friday afternoon knowing a morning road trip might be in the cards for me on Saturday. The forecast was what I would say perfect, less than 1mph wind (hard to find coastal) and a light upper layer of clouds at sunrise. It takes getting up at a ridiculous hour and being on the road at 3 am for me to get there at least 30 minutes before blue hour. Like I said before, it’s always a roll of the dice. On this day the gamble paid off. It’s difficult for me to describe in words what this particular morning was like for me. So many times I have made this trip, sometimes it works in my favor and sometimes it turns out less than desirable. This morning was different, the sky was like a silk screen with a light show being projected from beyond. The forecast was spot on. There was no wind creating mirror reflections on the water. There were just the right clouds producing unbelievable, vibrant colors in the sky. And this didn’t last just a few minutes. The atmosphere was reflecting the sun from below the horizon as if it were the Northern Lights, constantly changing till the sun poked itself out. The true artists was at work and I was there alone to witness and capture the show. This was the most amazing morning I have yet to encounter.
