The massive green copper dome of Marmorkirken dominates the skyline and can be spotted from almost any rooftop in Copenhagen’s inner city. Although it is commonly known as The Marble Church, its official name is Frederik’s Church.
Built in the Baroque style, the dome was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, and it is one of the largest church domes in Scandinavia. Construction began in 1749 and was finally completed in 1894 after many interruptions. When visiting the nearby royal palace of Amalienborg, it’s difficult not to notice Marmorkirken as a key landmark.
