Adobe Announces Major Updates Ahead of Sundance 2025

Adobe has introduced significant updates to its flagship video and motion design tools—Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io—just in time for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. These enhancements aim to streamline workflows for filmmakers, editors, and motion designers, reducing tedious processes and enabling faster creativity.

Premiere Pro (Beta) Updates

  • AI-Powered Media Intelligence: The new Search panel uses AI to recognize objects, locations, and camera angles, allowing natural language searches. Editors can locate visuals, spoken words, or metadata, such as shoot dates or camera types, without an internet connection.
  • Caption Translation: Expanding accessibility, this feature supports caption translations in 17 languages. Multiple language tracks can be displayed simultaneously for multilingual editing.

After Effects (Beta) Improvements

  • Faster Playback: A new caching system utilizes both RAM and high-performance disks, allowing faster playback of complex compositions, even on older hardware.
  • HDR Monitoring: Supports PQ and HLG video standards with improved HDR video scopes, making HDR workflows as seamless as SDR.

Frame.io Updates

  • Camera to Cloud Integration: Select Canon cameras (C80 and C400) can now upload proxy files directly to Frame.io via a recent firmware update. This integration ensures quicker edits and allows footage to be relinked to original files for final delivery.

Adobe at Sundance

Adobe notes its tools remain a top choice for filmmakers, with 85% of this year’s Sundance entrants using its tools. Films like “Opus” and “Train Dreams” were edited using Adobe software. The company has also increased its commitment to diversity with an additional $5 million allocated to the Adobe Film & TV Fund, bringing the total to $11 million.

All features are currently available in beta. Adobe encourages Creative Cloud members to try the updates and provide feedback.
