Summer is coming! Your kids are just a moment or two away from finishing the school year. If you want to keep them occupied with something you can share as they grow, check out Camp Canon, an online summer camp for photography and videography. Schools out for summer, schools out forever... why not encourage a love for photography?
How young were you when you first understood photography was a skill you could learn and grow? What if you could have started a decade or more sooner?
Canon Canada is running virtual camps for children under 16. The courses are spread over 5 days, starting early July to the end of August. Canon Canada is only charging $99.99 CAD if you sign up under the early bird offer. Once the early bird expires, courses jump to $149 CAD.
Canon Canada has broken its summer camp down into three basic programs aimed at two different age groups:
- Photo Foundations for Kids, 8-12 and for Teens, 13-16,
- Beyond the Basics for Kids, 8-12 and for Teens, 13-16, and
- Intro to Video and YouTube for Kids, 8-12 and for Teens, 13-16.
Canon is limiting the classes to only 10 students so that expert instructors can provide instruction, inspiration, photo assignments, and feedback, all over live zoom.
Camp Canon has a serious roster of photographers and educators, including:
- Colleen Gara, and
- Colin Dougan, and
As a teacher myself, I've always found that creative group study is one of the best ways to encourage shy children to put themselves out there, to make connections they might not normally make and to elevate their confidence. Canon is certainly looking to get summer off on the right foot.
