YoloLiv, known for its live streaming encoders, is stepping into the dedicated webcam market with a bold claim: mirrorless quality in a webcam. The newly announced YoloLiv YoloCam S3 aims to deliver professional-grade visuals with plug-and-play convenience, targeting creators, streamers, and professionals.

The YoloLiv YoloCam S3, based on the hardware, should offer impressive image quality. It features a 1/1.3" CMOS sensor—a size rarely seen in webcams—that promises superior image quality, particularly in low light. Paired with PDAF autofocus, the YoloCam S3 should deliver sharp images in real time while avoiding the hassle of rigging a mirrorless or compact camera for webcam use.

Here’s a quick rundown of the key features:

  • Up to 4K 30 fps and 1080p 60 fps video
  • Uncompressed video via USB-C 3.0
  • Real-time color grading engine (Picasso Resolve)
  • Low-light performance with HDR
  • All-metal body designed for fanless 24/7 operation
  • 4x digital zoom with 1080p output
  • Foldable magnetic mount and 1/4"-20 tripod mount
  • AI-powered image processor for auto exposure and white balance

YoloLiv is emphasizing the YoloCam S3’s uncompressed video output through USB-C 3.0, ensuring detail is preserved with minimal latency. The accompanying software allows for DSLR-like control over image parameters—from contrast and sharpness to white balance and color grading—allowing creators to fine-tune the camera’s output or live color-grade the camera inputs in real time. The company is also touting its "Picasso Resolve" color grading engine, designed to be simple yet powerful—a far cry from traditional "auto mode" webcams.

For those who need continuous operation, YoloLiv claims the YoloCam S3 is designed for 24/7 non-stop live streaming. It features an all-metal body with an expansive heat-dissipating structure to prevent overheating.

The YoloCam S3 also features a 1080p output via a 4x digital zoom. You can save a specific zoom position as a preset and assign a keyboard shortcut or hotkey.

The magnetic mount is a flexible approach to rigging a webcam, and it builds on the magnetic attachment trend that I’ve been enjoying with recent computer accessories. The more conventional 1/4"-20 tripod mount retains compatibility with existing setups as well.

The YoloCam S3 aims to be more than just a basic webcam. It will be interesting to see how well it performs in real-world scenarios and how it stacks up against established players and mirrorless cameras used as webcams.
