Sunset Elk

Five minutes before the sun melted away below the pacific horizon, I came upon this group of male Tule Elk. Their antlers had a nice sheen of antler velvet, ready to be peeled away for the Fall rut. For the time being, these bachelors hung out together. Come a few weeks, the velvet would be stripped away and these bulls would fight for their chance at a harem, and mating rights before the end of the rutting season.
