Married in the Rain

This wedding was at a beautiful location, on a mansion overlooking Table Rock Lake, but unfortunately we had a rainy, gloomy day. I wanted to do my best to take advantage of it.

After the wedding I went outside in the rain and set my strobe exactly where I wanted it, directly behind the couple to backlight them and get the detail of the rain falling, but also far enough back to get the details of the building and get some light in the lamp to their left as well. I wanted these structures as well as the wood rail to frame my subject. I gave the couple a clear umbrella, to both keep them dry and to capture some of the backlight and reflect it back on to their faces and to the rain falling in front of them.

I set my camera to slightly underexpose the lake and sky background, brought the couple out for some quick photos, and was able to get exactly what I was hoping for with this shot.
