Full Moon Setting Over Waldo

The full moon at dawn setting over Waldo Lake in the Oregon Cascades. Lake surface is ~5,200ft. in altitude. Lake surface is seven miles by 1 1/2 with depths to 2,000+ ft. Water so pure / clear you can see the bottom to roughly 110’. Snowed in from late October through early June. Miserable with mosquitoes from June through mid-August. Realistically one can only access for 7-8 weeks each year unless you want to snow mobile or x-country ski seven miles from the nearest highway. I have very sweet memories from annual camping trips as a kid and subsequently with my wife / kids. This photo taken at roughly 5:30am in late spring with a Sony a65 using a 28-75 zoom.

I can feel the chill in the air on this photo. Very evocative.

Thanks Oren for taking a moment to comment. It was indeed chilly, only a couple of degrees above freezing due to the time of day / year and altitude

Nice shot! Air is nice and clear before fire season. 7-8 weeks or less if there is a bad fire season. My profile shot was taken on the south side of Broken Top in the Sisters Wilderness. People don't realize that you don't come by these shots that easily.

Nice vista from your position. I was camping at Waldo in 1996 when the big fire hit the north end of the lake. That was pretty intense..... I last visited Deception Pass in May of 2019. It was just past dawn and the tide was slack so very still.

at first glance I thought this was super low clouds raining on these foreground trees! nice scene!

Thanks Elliott, I appreciate you taking a moment to share your input / insights

Beautiful picture!

Thank you!
