Serengeti Snack 5

We found this African Black Shouldered Kite sitting in the top of a tree in the central Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. She was in the process of gulping down a freshly caught mouse, (or rat - not really sure of the species). Whatever it was, it was gone in an instant - all but the tail and one foot. When the nictitating membrane is retracted, the African Black Shouldered Kite has piercingly bright red eyes. You can see the dark colored membrane covering the uppermost part of the eye.

I took the image with a Canon 7D Mark II with an EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens with a 1.4X III teleconverter. The exposure settings were 1/2000 sec, f/8.0, ISO 500, 560 mm, hand-held.
