This herd of big horn sheep was photographed in New Mexico just a few miles north of the Mexican border. I was driving around an area owned by Phelps-Dodge Mining Company when I spotted the group grazing at the top of a slope. I got out of the truck and slowly made my way upwards toward the herd. Once I got to within twenty (20) the big ram in the back and the smaller females in front spotted me. I slowly raised the camera to my and took the picture. Continuing to stare me down the big moved out in front of the herd towards me. Discretion being the better part of valor I slowly started to back down the slope and make my way back to the vehicle. It was made with a Nikon F3, using a Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 macro lens on Kodacolor 400.
