How to Get More From Photoshop's Generative Fill Feature

Effective use of Photoshop's Generative Fill can significantly enhance editing possibilities. This tool, while powerful, can often be unpredictable, making proficiency in its application essential for photographers who aim to achieve precise edits in their workflow.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this insightful video showcases techniques to maximize the effectiveness of Photoshop's Generative Fill feature. Morganti demonstrates how to use the tool for changing elements in an image, such as altering clothing or modifying backgrounds. His approach, involving both loose and tight selections, is a novel way to maximize the tool's effectiveness. He shows that a loose selection is optimal for changing smaller details like clothing, while a tight, exact selection is necessary for more significant alterations like changing backgrounds.

Morganti further elaborates on the iterative process of using Generative Fill. He suggests applying the tool multiple times to refine specific parts of an image. This technique is particularly useful when an initial application of Generative Fill doesn’t quite meet the desired outcome, as will often be the case. By focusing on smaller areas and reapplying the tool, you can achieve more precise and realistic edits. This method is especially beneficial in complex editing scenarios where attention to detail is paramount. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.

Yikes.

No so much for me. I guess if your goal is a "pretty picture" then it works for you. For me, my photographs have to match the experience.
